Meet Our Team

Refine Plastic Surgeons is a collective of surgeons with expertise in all fields of plastic surgery, decades of experience and hundreds of patients to our names. We are based in Edinburgh but frequently travel for surgeries, and have given talks across the world.

Cameron Raine

Surgeon
Consultant Plastic & Aesthetic Surgeon

Cameron Raine graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School and trained in plastic surgery in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Sydney, Australia. 

Having been awarded a higher surgical degree from the University of Edinburgh he went on to win two surgical scholarships. The first was undertaken in the UK and concentrated on all aspects of reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery. Thereafter a Royal College of Surgeons travelling scholarship took him to the United States, where he spent time in Atlanta, Georgia and Orange County, California. These fellowships allowed Cameron to consolidate his experience in all aspects of cosmetic surgery including face lifting, eyelid rejuvenation, nose reshaping, body contouring, female genital surgery, breast enlargement, breast reduction, fat grafting and liposculpture. 

As an NHS consultant Cameron offers a specialist surgical service for patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In the private sector he concentrates on cosmetic surgery in all its forms and has extensive experience in the non-surgical treatment of facial lines.

Ken Stewart

Ken graduated from medical school in 1990. He then spent the next 12 years in general surgical training, followed by plastic surgery training. While principally based in Scotland, he also undertook periods of specialist plastic surgery training in Sydney, Toronto and California.
 
Ken has been on the GMC specialist register in plastic surgery since 2002. He is a full member of BAAPS, BAPRAS, EURAPS and ISAR, and has recently become the first surgeon in Scotland to be Royal College of Surgeons certified in cosmetic surgery.

He is often invited to  lecture at prestigous surgical societies both in the UK (BAPRAS, ENT UK, BOAMS, BOPS) and abroad in China, India, Ireland, Switzerland and Poland. He has also, by invitation,  performed live demonstration surgery overseas in Poland, Oman, India and this year Vietnam. 

Ken is a training programme director for plastic surgery in Scotland and an honorary senior lecturer at Edinburgh University as well as an NHS consultant surgeon at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and St Johns. In the NHS he undertakes complex reconstructive surgery of the face, ear and body.

Patrick Addison

Patrick Addison graduated from Edinburgh University Medical school in 1996 with a distinction in Surgery and a honours degree in Molecular Biology. He then completed basic surgical training before moving to Toronto in order to undertake a research degree, following which he was awarded an MD. He completed his higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery both in Edinburgh and Newcastle before undertaking a 14 month advanced fellowship in Microsurgery at the Toronto General Hospital and a further three month aesthetic fellowship in California. He is on the GMC specialist register for Plastic Surgery and is a full member of BAPRAS.

Patrick currently works full-time as an NHS Plastic surgeon in both adult and paediatric practice. He has a specialist interest in reconstructive surgery following cancer excision or trauma and in the surgical management of facial paralysis. In his private practice he undertakes skin cancer surgery and the treatment of benign skin lesions, scar revisions, reconstructive surgery, non-surgical facial rejuvenation, facial paralysis surgery and breast reduction surgery.

Patrick also frequently undertakes medicolegal work.

Hilal Bahia

Hilal Bahia is a UK-trained, fully accredited (GMC) Consultant Plastic Surgeon, working in the Edinburgh plastic surgery unit with a special interest in breast reconstruction, skin cancer and burns. Educated in the UK, he graduated from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1991, followed by a year as an Anatomy lecturer before completing his basic surgical training and becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons in 1997.

He undertook two years of research, gaining an MD degree and has published widely in the medical and plastic surgery journals. He completed his specialist training in Plastic Surgery in Edinburgh, and Glasgow (Canniesburn), and undertook an Oncoplastic/Microsurgical Reconstructive Breast Fellowship in Newcastle. He also completed a Cosmetic Fellowship at the Institute of Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery in London, working with Jan Stanek ('10 Years Younger', 'Plastic Fantastic'), Dai Davis and Nick Percival ('Plastic Surgery School', 'Extreme Makeover', 'Make Me Perfect'), appearing in episodes of Channel 4's '10 Years Younger' and 'Embarrassing Bodies'.

Hilal also frequently undertakes medicolegal work.

Mark Butterworth

Since graduating from Edinburgh University, Mark Butterworth trained extensively in plastic surgery, spending time at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, two years in Adelaide (Australia) and six years in London, including six months at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. He returned to Edinburgh in 2001 to take up his post as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust as well as at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. He is a full member of BAPRAS.

In the private sector, he specialises in cosmetic facial rejuvenation surgery and cosmetic breast surgery in addition to body re-contouring surgery and liposuction, including post extensive weight loss surgery. He also has extensive experience in non-surgical treatments for facial lines and provides a mole and skin cancer service, including the treatment of malignant melanoma. He has lectured extensively in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery both in the UK and overseas.

In his role as an NHS consultant, Mr Butterworth specialises in the treatment of breast cancer patients undergoing reconstruction and in the surgical treatment of malignant melanoma. His outside interests include art and sailing.

Ewa Majdak-Paredes

Ewa Majdak-Paredes PhD, FRCS(Plast), EBOPRAS obtained her Medical Degree from Medical University of Gdansk in 2000, before completing a PhD program in surgery and human genetics at Gdansk and Leiden University Medical Centre as a Marie Curie PhD research Fellow.

Ewa undertook her postgraduate training in surgery and plastic surgery in the UK followed by 12 years in general surgical and plastic surgery training. She also undertook fellowships in Oncoplastic Breast Reconstruction, advanced microsurgical breast reconstruction and breast aesthetics / body contouring in the Edinburgh Breast Unit, Chelmsford and Canada. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2015 and the European Board Examination in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in 2015.

 

Ewa has been on the GMC specialist register in plastic surgery since 2016 and is a full member of BAPRAS. She was appointed a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in NHS Lothian in Aug 2016 and her special interests include oncoplastic breast reconstruction, breast aesthetics, gynaecomastia, developmental breast problems, revision breast surgery, body contouring (e.g. after massive weight-loss, pregnancies or body sculpture), lipomodelling, skin cancer and reconstruction, scar management and other aspects of plastic surgery. Ewa has also started doing medico-legal work.

Outside medicine, Ewa has got great passion for art and is an amateur artist who enjoys painting and drawing. She can play the guitar (also as an amateur), believes in mindfulness and healthy life style, and is married with 2 daughters.
