Patrick Addison graduated from Edinburgh University Medical school in 1996 with a distinction in Surgery and a honours degree in Molecular Biology. He then completed basic surgical training before moving to Toronto in order to undertake a research degree, following which he was awarded an MD. He completed his higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery both in Edinburgh and Newcastle before undertaking a 14 month advanced fellowship in Microsurgery at the Toronto General Hospital and a further three month aesthetic fellowship in California. He is on the GMC specialist register for Plastic Surgery and is a full member of BAPRAS.
Patrick currently works full-time as an NHS Plastic surgeon in both adult and paediatric practice. He has a specialist interest in reconstructive surgery following cancer excision or trauma and in the surgical management of facial paralysis. In his private practice he undertakes skin cancer surgery and the treatment of benign skin lesions, scar revisions, reconstructive surgery, non-surgical facial rejuvenation, facial paralysis surgery and breast reduction surgery. He also frequently undertakes medicolegal work.
He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and is on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Facial Palsy UK charity.
Outside of medicine, Patrick enjoys running, swimming and cycling. He is a qualified downhill ski instructor, parachutist and helicopter pilot and enjoys travelling far and wide.
