"I love my new ears."
Since graduating from Edinburgh University, Mark Butterworth trained extensively in plastic surgery, spending time at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, two years in Adelaide (Australia) and six years in London, including six months at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. He returned to Edinburgh in 2001 to take up his post as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust as well as at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. He is a full member of BAPRAS.
In the private sector, he specialises in cosmetic facial rejuvenation surgery and cosmetic breast surgery in addition to body re-contouring surgery and liposuction, including post extensive weight loss surgery. He also has extensive experience in non-surgical treatments for facial lines and provides a mole and skin cancer service, including the treatment of malignant melanoma. He has lectured extensively in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery both in the UK and overseas.
As soon as I came out of surgery, I didn't feel any pain and I looked different already. As soon as the splint was off my nose and I had a look in the mirror I couldn't stop looking [at myself]. I just couldn't stop smiling.
I'm a lot more confident now. I feel a lot happier and less paranoid.
